Dr Daphne Han is an experienced Eye surgeon with more than 18 years in Ophthalmology specialty practice, having trained and worked in Australia, England and Singapore. She manages all types of eye-related conditions in the young and old, including lens and cataracts, corneal lasers, myopia control and contact lens management as well as glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. Her niche is in vision correction through cataract and lens implant surgery and laser vision correction, with established results in microincision and laser-assisted cataract surgery, LASIK, RELEX SMILE, implantable contact lens and iris implant.
Dr Han held scholarships since age 15 (ASEAN, PSA and Australian Equity and Merit Scholarships) before graduating from the University of Melbourne, Australia’s top-ranked medical school. She subsequently received professional training in England, including at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge and London’s King’s and St. Thomas’ Hospital Ophthalmology rotations, where she was first choice candidate. She completed her Fellowship in Ophthalmology at the Singapore National Eye Centre, and furthered her subspecialty interests in Cataracts and Anterior Segment Reconstruction at the Cincinnati Eye Institute, USA and in Laser eye correction and cross-linking at Institute of Refractive and Ophthalmic Surgery (IROC), Zurich.
She was faculty at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC), where she treated countless patients and taught her fellow doctors Cataract and Refractive Surgeries, before headhunted by the private sector. Her former positions include Consultant Ophthalmologist at SNEC (Cataract and Comprehensive Service and Laser Vision Centre), Adjunct Assistant Professor at DUKE-NUS, Adjunct Clinician Investigator at Singapore Eye Research Institute, Medical Director and Consultant Ophthalmologist at SMG Vision Center, Gleneagles Hospital and Consultant Ophthalmologist at Lasik Surgery Clinic.
Dr Han embraces a comprehensive approach in Ophthalmology and strongly believes in team-based health management. She endeavours to promote screening, early detection and management of eye diseases, and is passionate about maximizing visual potential through individualized lens and laser eye surgeries, from simple to complex. She fully understands her patients’ bewilderment in the myriad choices available for vision improvement treatment, and is adept in guiding her patients to achieve the best available outcome with evidence-based medicine. For her expertise in Ophthalmology, she is often invited to speak, write and review articles and to educate fellow eye doctors. She serves as a Consultant for Lifeline Express, China (non-profit) and continues to volunteer in her professional capacity for eye missions both in Singapore and the region.
Dr Han was previously editor of Chinese literary publications at Raffles Girls’ Secondary School and at her University. She loves the great outdoors, enjoys cycling, skiing and precious family time.
